In the meantime, in Eastern Sudan, according to Sudan Tribune, Osama Saeed of the opposition Beja Congress urged for launching an appeal of relief for Kassala town after floods hit several neighbourhoods in the town on Monday.

Saeed, according to the report, said three people were killed on Monday and 10000 houses collapsed, noting that the affected people are now without shelter.

KHARTOUM, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains and floods have killed 10 people in different areas in Sudan, Sudan Tribune reported.

The early warning unit of Sudan's Meteorological Authority has warned of medium to heavy rains with strong winds that may hit, as of Wednesday, Kassala, Geddarif, Khartoum, Nahral-Neel, Sinnar, Gezira, White Nile, Kordofan and Darfur states.

However, Sudan's Ashorooq net quoted director of civil defence of West Kordofan State, Zahir Al-Sharif Abu Kalam, as saying that the heavy rains in the state resulted in the death of three people with three others missing.

It cited eyewitnesses as saying that the heavy rains and floods led to collapse of around 1,10000 to 2,000 houses in the town.

According to the report, three of the victims were inmates in the town's prison, parts of which collapsed due the heavy rains.

According to the report, West Kordofan State Governor Ahmed Ajab Al-Fiya directed all authorities concerned with rainy season emergency to work together and adopt all the necessary health and precautions to face the consequences of the rains and floods.

Meanwhile, Khartoum State on Tuesday witnessed heavy rains that crippled the traffic and prevented many students from going to their schools.

In North Kordofan State, the floods reportedly cut the main road linking the state with the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

"At least seven people were killed and three others were missing when heavy rains and floods hit the northern and northeastern parts of al-Nuhood town in Sudan's West Kordofan State," the report said.

He added that the rains and flood also caused damage to 2,10000 houses, while parts of some institutions and schools collapsed.
